Foreword
2024 passed in a blur, slipping away almost unnoticed. Perhaps it was the year’s quiet simplicity that made time feel so fleeting—life moves swiftly when it’s calm and uneventful.
I’ve never been one for grand ambitions. Career plans or personal goals? I don’t dwell on them much. My focus was straightforward: start working early and stay busy. Yet, when I began seriously job hunting mid-year, anxiety crept in unexpectedly.
Since starting my blog in May, I’ve grown to enjoy documenting my thoughts and experiences. Inspired by this, I decided to write a year-end summary—a first for me. Whether I’ll continue this tradition in the future remains to be seen.
Job Hunting
This autumn’s recruitment season followed the rhythm of coding practice and resume submissions. Coding has been a constant since I chose to focus on front-end development. As for resumes, I applied to over 100 companies across multiple platforms, along with some offline interviews.
I attended several interviews and written exams, though some companies lost their appeal upon closer inspection. Reading too many online reviews can quickly dampen enthusiasm.
Fortunately, I received an offer from a company in Nanjing. For now, I’ll keep it as a backup while exploring other opportunities. As for my skills, I’m not in a position to judge. Beyond job hunting and coding, the second half of the year was mostly about enjoying life.
Life
My sleep schedule is all over the place—I really need to fix that. It’s been a year of ups and downs, with some worries but also plenty of happy moments.
Life didn’t change much this year. The first half was light on classes, and the second half had none, making it a pretty relaxed year overall.
I read less than usual, finishing just over ten new books. However, I stumbled upon a couple of gems near the year’s end, which was a pleasant surprise. Gaming also took a backseat. The Switch I bought at the beginning of the year, after clocking a thousand hours in Pokémon, now mostly runs a few smaller games and the Atelier series. It’s already gathering dust. (So that’s where my gaming hours went.)
I’m itching to play more Atelier games. The wait for ”A25” is killing me(:з」∠)
On a brighter note, I played InfinityNikki at the end of the year—it was really fun.
Relationships
I had hoped to stay in closer touch with a few old friends, aiming to strengthen our bonds and exchange ideas for mutual growth. But things didn’t go as planned—I barely reached out. It just felt awkward to message people out of the blue.
I’ve noticed my ability to connect with others has been slipping. Next year, I’ll need to make a conscious effort to interact more, especially as I step into the workplace soon (/_\)
Looking Ahead to 2025
Here are a few hopes for the coming year—maybe writing them down will help make them happen:
- Land a satisfying job and find an affordable, comfortable place to live.
- Shed a little weight. Even a small change would be progress.
- Engage more with people and build stronger connections.
- Keep up with reading. Even two books a month would add up to 24 in a year.
- Document and organize more content to enrich my blog.
I’m optimistic and excited for what 2025 will bring.
